You can completely clean up the old letter in the mail for everything cleaner. This does not necessarily erase all your old messages, but simply move them to "warehouse" of Gmail. You can go to the warehouse by clicking All Mail is located in the left menu. Here's how:

1. Open a web browser, type the Gmail address and log into your Gmail account.

2. Beside the Web Search button at the top, you click Create a filter

3. Then, in the "Has the words", ie you type before: 01.01.2011, that is when it will save all the messages received before 1 / 1 of 2011. You can type in any date you want, as long as the format to match available is YYYY / MM / DD (year / month / day).

4. Then click Next Step.

5. Check the mailbox Skip the Inbox (Archive it), then check the box Also apply filter to # # # Conversations below.

6. Finally, click Create Filter. Depends how many messages you have in the conditions (in step 3 above), processing takes about 1 or 2 minutes.
